Roberts, Mr [fl. ], house servant. Mr Roberts served as a doorkeeper at Covent Garden Theatre from as early as 1766, when he was first mentioned in the accounts. A company paylist dated 14 September 1767 has him down for a daily wage of 2s. or 12s. weekly. If he was the same Roberts cited in the accounts in the early eighteenth century, he finally rose to 15s. weekly during his extensive service career. The accounts called him a pit doorkeeper in 1767 and again in 1817. Perhaps he was the Roberts who was a gallery doorkeeper at the Haymarket Theatre in the summer of 1806.
